3 Players Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Could Release to Sign Cameron Green at the IPL 2026 Auction

Cameron Green may miss the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) due to injury, but there’s no doubt he will be one of the hottest properties at the IPL 2026 mega auction. A world-class all-rounder, Green’s blend of explosive batting and reliable seam bowling makes him an ideal target for any franchise—especially for a team like Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who are in urgent need of fresh firepower in their lineup.

Green’s versatility and match-winning ability make him a perfect fit for the Super Kings moving into the next cycle. However, acquiring him won’t come cheap. To secure Green’s services, CSK will likely need to release some high-value players to free up the required budget.

Here are three players CSK could consider letting go to create room for Cameron Green:

1. Ravindra Jadeja

Jadeja’s inclusion on this list might raise eyebrows, especially given his legendary status at CSK and his retention for a hefty INR 18 crore. But tough decisions are inevitable in a high-stakes auction environment.

While still a dependable all-rounder, Jadeja’s form has dipped noticeably. This season, he’s averaging 29 with the bat at a strike rate of just 126, and his bowling has been underwhelming—only 5 wickets, with no full 4-over spells completed. Turning 37 later this year, Jadeja appears to be past his prime, and releasing him could be a necessary step to revamp the squad.

2. Ravichandran Ashwin

Another franchise icon, Ravichandran Ashwin, has struggled to make an impact in IPL 2025. Despite being picked up for INR 9.75 crore at the last mega auction, Ashwin has managed only 5 wickets at an average of 45 and an economy rate of 9.3. His struggles in the powerplay have been especially glaring—averaging 98 with an economy of over 12.

Now 38, and set to be 39 by IPL 2026, Ashwin’s best days seem behind him. Letting him go would free up significant funds and also open the door for younger talent.

3. Devon Conway

Among the likeliest to be released is Devon Conway. The New Zealand opener, once seen as a solid anchor at the top, appears to be on the decline. At 33, and with a price tag of INR 6.25 crore, he no longer offers the value CSK needs from an overseas spot.

With limited upside and a high cost, parting ways with Conway is a straightforward decision to help bankroll the Green bid.

Final Word

CSK faces some major calls ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. But if they are to land Cameron Green—one of the most dynamic all-rounders in the game—releasing a few aging or underperforming players is not just logical; it’s essential.
